Values

John’s philosophy of what the financial services ought to be is straightforward. Advisors will need a deep commitment to education, best practices, the primacy of consumer interests and compensation disclosure in order to transform the industry into a true profession.
Through John's writing, speaking and consulting work, an optimistic vision of the future becomes clear. Consumers are desperate for qualified advice and are willing to pay for it, provided they receive real value in the services that are offered. John believes that these mutually beneficial attributes include:
  • Making product recommendations based on empirical research
  • Using products that pay no embedded fees, allowing for transparent compensation
  • Having uniform credentials so all advisors meet a consistent standard
  • Using a clear, unambiguous process for portfolio construction

John is an engaging speaker, commentator and change agent in the financial services industry, having spoken at the Distinguish Financial Advisor Conference in California, Canadian Money Saver Conferences in Europe and the Caribbean, the Financial Forum and the Canadian Institute of Financial Planner's AGM, among other venues.
